Before starting: Connection between items

The Woomelly plugin facilitates the connection between WooCommerce products and Mercado Libre listings using the latter’s publication code. Although it is also possible to do this via the SKU field, it’s important to note that this field is not mandatory in WooCommerce and its use varies by business. Therefore, the management of the SKU does not affect the operation of the Woomelly plugin. That is why, to connect WooCommerce products with existing Mercado Libre listings, it is necessary to follow the steps detailed in this guide.

Steps to connect WooCommerce products with existing Mercado Libre publications

1. Copy the Mercado Libre publication code (without hyphens)

Get this code from the URL of the publication on Mercado Libre.

2. Set the Mercado Libre publication code in the WooCommerce product detail

You can do this from the WooCommerce product detail, in the “WM Details” tab, or directly from the quick or mass edit of the product list in your store. Optionally, you can indicate a connection template previously configured with the same Mercado Libre category. If you don’t, the Woomelly plugin will replicate it automatically.

3. Check if the Mercado Libre publication has variants

The variants appear in the Mercado Libre publication, near the purchase button. It is important to know if the publications have variants or not, as this will require additional configuration in your WooCommerce store.

There are two (2) types of variants: (a) The unique/non-selectable ones and (b) the selectable ones. Non-selectable variants are attributes that Mercado Libre demands for publications, such as color. These are not selected at the time of purchase. On the other hand, selectable variants are variants that the user must select to make the purchase. This usually refers to the Apparel category (size and color). At this step, it should be identified whether they are selectable or non-selectable variants.

4. Configure non-selectable variants

If the publication has non-selectable variants (identified in step 3) and the WooCommerce product is simple, you should load this data in the product detail, in the “WM Technical Data” tab. If you have a variable product, set the relationship from the detail of the variation or from the Woomelly connection template.

And in the case of having a variable product, you should establish the relationship from the detail of the variation or from the Woomelly connection template.

5. Configure selectable variants

In these cases, it is necessary for the WooCommerce product to be variable. You cannot link a publication with selectable variants from Mercado Libre with a simple product. If you have a variable product in your WooCommerce store, set the relationship from the detail of the variation or from the Woomelly connection template.

If the publication on Mercado Libre has sales and requires the internal identifiers of each variation to be assigned to the WooCommerce product variations, you must identify these identifiers and copy them into the variations. You can get these identifiers from “Woomelly » Tools » Publication Data“. Then, copy them into each of the variations of the variable product in WooCommerce so that the link is made correctly.

There is another semi-automatic procedure for cases where the store products meet the following characteristics:

  • Simple product in WooCommerce. That is, without variations. At the moment, this functionality is not active for variable products or products configured as multiples in Woomelly.
  • The WooCommerce product must be previously unlinked (you can reset the connection by following these steps). Another option is to have a previously assigned connection template whose Mercado Libre category is identical to the category of the publication to be linked.
  • Both items (the WooCommerce product and the Mercado Libre publication) must share the same SKU. If you don’t know what an SKU is, we recommend this article.

If the products in your store meet these specifications, you can use a batch action from the product list to automate this process. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Select the WooCommerce products you want to link. It is important that these products are not already linked to Mercado Libre publications. If they are, you must unlink or reset them first.
  2. Execute the action “Link Existing Items”. In this process, the tool will take the SKU of your product in the store and search Mercado Libre among the publications for that SKU. The first publication it finds will be chosen, and a link will be made between both items automatically. So make sure the SKUs are not duplicated in your publications.

Vincula Ítems Existentes por Medio de SKU

Once linked, you can synchronize from WooCommerce to Mercado Libre or vice versa. You will also be able to adjust the internal configuration of your products from your WooCommerce store. If you need help, contact us.
